More than 60% of the suspended programs are in design and social studies, while others span business, engineering, health, law, science and interdisciplinary fields.
Current students will not be affected, and the university says the pause is aimed at refreshing curricula to better meet future demand.
The decision, announced Aug. 14 on UTS's official website, comes as the school faces financial pressure. Earlier this year, local media reported the university was weighing up 400 job cuts, the Sydney Morning Herald reported. The school said the temporary suspension was due to low registration numbers.
Despite these challenges, UTS remains highly ranked: in the world's top 100 and ninth in Australia, according to QS World University Rankings 2026. It enrolls around 51,000 students and employs more than 4,000 staff, with tuition fees ranging from AU$40,000 to 50,000 (US$26,100-32,600) per year.
