Top Australian universities to raise tuition fees for 2025

Australia's top 10 universities are set to charge between AUD$26,500 and AUD$113,000 (US$17,778 - 75,823) for the upcoming academic year, depending on the program of study.

According to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) university rankings published last week, Australia has 10 universities listed among the top 200 globally.

The University of Melbourne leads, ranking 39th worldwide, followed by other prestigious institutions such as Monash University, the University of Sydney, the Australian National University, and the University of Queensland.

For 2025, international student tuition fees at these universities will range from AUD$26,500 to AUD$113,000, representing an increase of approximately AUD$2,000-3,000 compared to current rates. The highest fees are for clinical medicine at the University of Melbourne (AUD$113,000), followed by oral surgery at the University of Adelaide.

The lowest tuition fees apply to music, visual, and performing arts programs at the University of Melbourne, at AUD$26,500. Generally, programs in arts, education, social sciences, and humanities have lower fees.

In addition to tuition, international students must cover health insurance (OSHC), student amenities and services fees (SSAF), and other related charges.

Living costs for international students in Australia are estimated to range from AUD$20,000 to AUD$39,000 per year.

Australia remains a popular destination for international students, currently hosting nearly 800,000 students from overseas. Vietnam ranks fifth among countries with the most international students in Australia, with over 36,000 students, following China, India, Nepal, and the Philippines.

THE is one of three renowned university ranking organizations, along with QS and the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The 2025 rankings were based on data from over 2,000 higher education institutions across 115 countries and territories, using 18 criteria grouped into five categories: teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry income and patents (4%).
